Machangana/Vatsonga heritage defined.
Tsonga/Shaghaan people have a distinctive fabric that is used on the clothing, it can easily be identified by its bright colors (yellow, purple, green), we are often recognized by the love of bright colors even though most of us are dark skinned……People often identify us by the bright colors that we wear… Other South African tribes have named these shaghaan fabrics or should we say that we have started to identify ourselves through these fabrics….
But does a fabric from China/India define a culture? What will happen when the fabric is lost? Will I as Tsonga/Shaghaan person loose my culture?
This has led me to seek and understand the history of my people and where we come…..and what we stand for beyond fabrics and bags…..
Gazankulu Republic –Made in Afrika Dzonga is beyond the fabric it’s about history, it’s about who we are, it’s about restoration of the pride of Machaghana/vatsonga. The fabric merely helps us express our identity and who we are.
